On Tuesday, January 14, New England elementary students had a visit from Don Blake, otherwise known as Super Apple Man. Using the awesome power of dance breaks, beat-boxing, conga-lines, and fruits and vegetables Blake was able to get his message across to the youngsters. He covered topics like making healthy food choices, exercising, bullying, preaching the Golden Rule, working hard in school, and being helpful and respectable children, although from outside the gymnasium doors, one would have mistaken this great message for quite the rave. Even the teachers got to join in on the fun by leading conga-lines and dancing with their students. Our own principal, Mrs. Fitterer, joined in on the action by becoming Mrs. Carrot to talk about the importance of fruits and vegetables with the help from a few sixth graders (Tucker Bock, Kailee Gussey, Gage Madler, Christopher Pete, Grace Bieber, Lucas Twogood, Carly Wolf, and Abbigail Elliot) dressed up as other various foods. With the help of Mr. Blake these students will put their new skills to good use at home and in school.
